Who is Diya Yadav? Youngest-Ever WPL Signing at 16 Joins Delhi Capitals

Deeya Yadav, the child prodigy, found herself in the spotlight when she bagged a WPL contract with the Delhi Capitals. The 16-year-old was bought at her base price of ₹10 lakh. Hailing from Haryana, Deeya has been impressive since the start of her domestic career. A swashbuckling batter, she gives the Delhi Capitals valuable top-order depth

Being called the female Suryavanshi equivalent in the WPL, Deeya first made an impression in 2023 during the U-15 Women’s One-Day Cup, scoring 578 runs at an average of 96.33, including three centuries. She even converted one of those centuries into a double ton. The Haryana management noticed her immediately and fast-tracked her into the senior team. She then went on to impress everyone in both the Senior Women’s T20 and ODI formats. Her 298 runs at a strike rate of 149.5 helped North Zone reach the final.

Deeya’s gameplay resembles that of Shafali Verma full of attacking intent and fearless strokeplay. And why shouldn’t it? She has watched Shafali from close quarters, even opening with her in the Inter-Zonal T20 Trophy. In an interview, she said she developed her power game by observing Shafali. She also idolizes MS Dhoni and mentioned that, apart from Shafali, she is excited to share the dressing room with the likes of Jemimah Rodrigues and Laura Wolvaardt, and learn how to bat under pressure.
