The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has approved a 2.5-fold increase in match fees for female cricket players, which is a significant boost to women’s cricket on the domestic circuit in India. According to sources, the decision was made during its Apex Council meeting.
Senior women cricket players participating in 50-over domestic matches will now receive Rs 50,000 per match if they are included in the playing XI, according to the updated structure. Every game, reserves will get Rs 25,000.
Players in the playing XI will get Rs 25,000 per game in the T20 format, while reserves will get Rs 12,500.
The updated pay scale also includes junior female cricket players. Players in the playing XI will get Rs 25,000 per match for junior women’s 50-over matches, while reserves will get Rs 12,500.
The fees for Twenty20 matches are Rs. 6,250 and Rs. 11,500. It is anticipated that this action will greatly bolster the domestic pipeline and give young cricket players who want to advance to the next level more financial stability.
The increase in match fees is an extension of the reforms that were started in 2023 when Jay Shah, the BCCI Secretary at the time, made sure that centrally contracted men’s and women’s cricket players received equal match fees.
The financial ecosystem surrounding women’s cricket has steadily improved since then.
The most recent ruling highlights the BCCI’s increasing emphasis on bolstering women’s cricket at the local and grassroots levels, acknowledging its contribution to maintaining India’s success on the global scene.
