Due to their slow over-rate against South Africa in the second ODI in Raipur, India was fined 10% of their match fee. After time allowances were taken into account and KL Rahul’s team was found to be two overs short of the target, Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the punishment.

As a result, Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offenses, was used to charge India.

If the players fail to bowl in the allotted time, they will be fined five percent of their match fees for each over.

There was no need for a formal hearing because KL Rahul, as stand-in captain, admitted guilt to the charge and accepted the punishment.

Despite outstanding efforts with the willow by Virat Kohli (102) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (105), India lost the second ODI against South Africa despite posting a formidable total of 358/5.

In response, South Africa chased down the target with four wickets remaining after Aiden Markram anchored the Proteas innings with an incredible knock of 110 off 98 balls.
