Tilak Varma had a tough and unexpected scare recently. While he was in Rajkot with the Hyderabad team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he suddenly felt a sharp, unbearable pain in his lower abdomen. The pain was so serious that he had to be rushed to the hospital immediately.
Doctors later confirmed that Tilak was suffering from Testicular Torsion, a condition that causes sudden and intense pain and needs quick surgery.
Thankfully, the surgery went well and he is recovering now. BCCI confirmed that they are closely monitoring his health and will share updates about when he can return to cricket.
But because of this injury, Tilak is almost certain to miss the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. This means the team management now has to think about replacements. However, reports suggest that Shubman Gill may not be added to the squad, as selectors feel it wouldn’t make sense to bring in the current Test and ODI captain and then not play him. They also want to avoid any awkward situation if Tilak returns midway.
On a positive note, Shreyas Iyer is back in action. After being declared match-fit, he returned in style, scoring 82 off 53 balls for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
He looked completely comfortable and will be ready for the upcoming New Zealand ODI series.
A tough moment for Tilak, but a strong comeback story is surely on the way.
